Krav Maga originated in Eastern Europe in the 1930s by Imi Lichtenfeld to protect the Jewish population from Nazi aggression. Imi, an accomplished boxer and wrestler, realised that sports like boxing and wrestling were not suitable in a real life violent situation and something else was required, and so Krav Maga was born. Battle tested, proved in real life situations.
Krav Maga was refined in Israel by Imi and has become the unarmed combat system of the Israeli Defence Force. Imi developed a civilian version suitable for women, children and men old and young. The basic principles are
Be aware of situations, avoid confrontation if possible, if not, Krav Maga teaches you to finish it and escape as quickly as possible
Based on your bodies natural reactions
Counter attacking as soon as possible or pre-emptively
Maintaining awareness of surroundings, multiple attackers and be ready to use common objects for protection
In classes, you are taught how to defend yourself and your loved ones in a realistic way. The classes are safe and enjoyable while giving you confidence to go about your daily life. It is also excellent exercise and suitable for all ages, sizes and shapes.
Krav Maga has gone from the fringe with Hollywood getting in on the act, with Jennifer Lopez, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Russell Brand all falling for the simplicity and effectiveness of Krav Maga.
